The award was presented by Prof. Dr. Detlev Ganten, chairman of Charité – University Medical Center Berlin at the Henry-Ford-Bau in Berlin. He honoured the 6 initiators of the former center transformed in “Berlin Institute of Gender in Medicine (GiM)” in July 2007 and their achievement of having found a broad support for interdisciplinary gender studies across different universities due to their tireless commitment.
One of the honoured initiators is Prof. Vera Regitz-Zagrosek: Speaker and director of GiM, professor for woman-specific health research focussing on heart diseases at Charité – University Medical Center Berlin, and Task 4 leader (“Gender aspects of beneficial versus maladaptive hypertrophy”) of EUGeneHeart. Besides her scientific achievements, also her successful fundraising of external funds for GiM was pointed out.
